Home Inspectors Educational Conference
February 23, 2007, Aqua Turf, Plantsville,
CT
The Southern New Chapter of the American
Society of Home Inspectors (SNECASHI)
sponsored a winter educational conference
where CT licensed home inspectors earned<
valuable continuing education credits. CT
requires that home inspectors obtain 20
education
credits annually to maintain their license.
The conference also provides an excellent
way to stay
abreast of the latest technology trends and
inspection techniques. “Homebuyers need to
be
aware how important it is for them to have
their home inspected by a fully qualified
inspector,”
says Andy Kasznay, President SNEC-ASHI.
“This is why we are continually offering
theser>
education seminars to help home inspectors
meet their education requirements and refine
the
skills they need to provide a comprehensive,
professional home inspection.” The
conference
featured two tracks; a full day session on
radon testing or two half day sessions on
well systems
and wood destroying insect inspections. The
presenters were Dave Sherwood, Immediate
Past>
President SNEC-ASHI (radon session), Andrew
Kasznay, Current President SNEC-ASHI and
Joe Giamo, Pest Control Professional. Home
inspectors attending the conference were
honored
to hear the keynote address from CT Attorney
General Richard Blumenthal concerning his
current efforts to strengthen consumer
rights in CT and nationwide.

SNEC-ASHI Launches Message Board
The Southern New
England Chapter of the American Society of
Home Inspectors (SNEC-ASHI) launched a new
online message board for its members at
www.snecashi.org. This capability
allows for the management and sharing of a
vast knowledge base among the membership.
Members login to the “Member Area” and post
questions, replies and pictures about
technical, business or ASHI subjects. All
postings remain in the database for others
to search by specific topics of interest.
It’s a very simple idea with a very big
potential. “We see this as a valuable
resource to help mentor candidates, attract
new members, focus education efforts on
subject matter most relevant to the
membership, stay current with technical and
legislative issues and more. And it’s a lot
fun too. The message board is about staying
connected in real time and providing a means
to help the membership remain on top of the
profession”, says Dave Sherwood, SNEC-ASHI
President. Future capabilities may include
voting, Board meeting minutes, Newsletters,
etc.
We’ve only just begun so our inventory of
postings is low, but here is a snapshot of a
portion of one page. Many thanks to the
SNEC-ASHI Board of Directors, Web
Administrator and membership for making this
idea become a reality.

FOOD BANK - 2005
Local Home Inspector members of the Southern New England Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors (SNEC-ASHI) made their annual donation to the CT Food Bank. “Your gift will help us provide food to the member agencies throughout our sixteen county service area – agencies that operate pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters that directly serve our neighbors in need”, said Nancy J. Carrington, Executive Director of the CFB, in a recent letter to Joe Raffone, the local member who spearheads SNEC-ASHI’s annual food drive. According to the CFB, this gift will provide enough food for 3400 meals. “This is the 3rd year for the food drive for which our membership has been so supportive. To date our members have been responsible for helping to feed thousands of needy men, women and children right here in Connecticut. It is an honor that we are able to help those less fortunate families and give back to the very communities who support us in our home inspection work” said Joe Raffone.

Radio Campaign a success
The Southern New England Chapter of the American
Society of Home Inspectors (SNEC-ASHI) expanded its
reach significantly among homeowners, homebuyers,
realtors and inspectors throughout CT & MA as a result
of a comprehensive radio campaign.
- Sixteen (16) 60 second spots March 9-11 and 14-18
on the WRCH 100.5 Morning Show with Allison, Mike and
Allen
- Telephone teaser at 7:40 AM March 14-18 where one
listener each day won a $300 gift certificate toward a
home inspection for correctly answering a home related
question
- Live interviews with local SNEC-ASHI home
inspectors during the week conducted by host Mike
Stacey
- Listeners who clicked to the SNEC-ASHI website
from the WRCH website could also enter a contest to
win a $250 gift certificate to Home Depot.
The campaign drew a 365% increase (149/wk during the
campaign vs. 32/wk for the prior month) in unique
visitors to the SNEC-ASHI website during the ad weeks.
Visitors from the WRCH website were directed to the
SNEC-ASHI "Find-an-Inspector" page to learn more about
this capability and the Chapter’s various programs and
activities. "We believe radio is a tremendous media for
increasing the awareness of ASHI and the qualifications
of its inspectors. ASHI inspectors have very strong
technical knowledge and superior customer service, which
is the basic tenant behind "The ASHI Experience", said
SNEC-ASHI President David Sherwood. ASHI is the oldest
professional national association for home inspectors
that requires them to pass two rigorous exams,
demonstrate skill level, conduct at least 250 fee paid
inspections and adhere to Standards of Practice and Code
of Ethics as prerequisites for full membership.
SNEC-ASHI meets at the Marriott Courtyard in Cromwell,
CT at 6:30 PM on the first Thursday of each month.
