Legislative affairs

The Southern New England Chapter of ASHI has since its inception monitored carefully actions at the legislature in Hartford that might affect the home inspection profession. Representatives of our chapter were deeply involved with the drafting of the Home Inspector Licensing legislation that was implemented in 2001. One member of our chapter sits on the Home Inspector Licensing Board which is charged with implementing the licensing law. We have for many years retained the services of a legislative and regulatory monitor in Hartford to keep close tabs on the legislature when it is in session and the activities of the regulatory agencies. The monitor keeps us informed of any emerging issues so we can respond in a timely manner. The ASHI chapters in Connecticut are the only home inspector organizations in this state that provide this service.

Membership

The Southern New England Chapter (SNEC) of ASHI is one of the oldest and most active of ASHI's local chapters. SNEC membership is open to all ASHI Associates or Members who recognize the value of belonging to a professional organization and who are willing to contribute to the chapter's success and growth. SNEC members receive valuable technical and business training and earn credits toward ASHI membership (MRC's) and Connecticut Home Inspector licensing renewals by attending our monthly meetings. Membership in the chapter enables the "true professional" home inspector to stay abreast of changes and trends within the industry through these monthly meetings, the annual education conference, the Chapter newsletter and web site. You can attend up to three of our monthly meetings at no charge to learn more about the benefits of Chapter membership. Download our Membership Application on the right side bar and get started on your journey to excellence. For more membership information, please contact Paul Colasanto, Membership Chairman, at (860) 525-2727.

Education

Continuing education is an important part of ASHI membership. An ASHI inspector must obtain 20 MRC annually to maintain membership status. Attending a SNEC-ASHI meeting provides the inspector with continuing education and credits on important technical and legal issues. With all the new or emerging technology for home construction or mechanical systems, the inspector needs to incorporate that knowledge in their home inspection process. Legislative activity can impact the way you conduct inspections and business. We rely on our legislative consultant to advise us of new regulations or laws so that we may act as one voice on behalf of our members. Continuing education is a cornerstone of our Chapter meetings and we will strive to offer our members the best education possible.
